Why buy sustainable underwear?

About synthetic materials (lycra, elastane, polyester, polyamide)

The majority of clothing is made from synthetic materials such as polyester (over 60%!) and cotton. 

Synthetic materials are not breathable. Therefore, they trap heat and moisture creating perfect conditions for yeast infections and skin reactions like rashes and irritations.

Every time synthetic materials are washed they shed micro plastic fibres.

One piece of clothing can release 700,000 fibres in a single wash.

Many reach beaches and oceans where they remain for hundreds of years.

About cotton

Cotton is often promoted as the best material for underwear and although it is certainly a better option then synthetic materials, it still has its drawbacks.

Cotton is not very durable, when wet it becomes heavy and takes a long time dry, it also shrinks/loses shape easily. 

Non organic cotton contributes to environment pollution through the use of pesticides and fertilisers - infact it is one of the most chemical intensive crops to grow. 

Workers and consumers are exposed to the carcinogenic toxins caused from production.
